Loopedin wins 1st Prize to support the transition from barcode to 2D QR codes of the GS1 Singapore Hackathon 2024 revealed during the Singapore Manufacturing Federation Manufacturing Day Summit on 17 Jan 2025!
Over two million companies in 155 countries use GS1 standards as part of their daily business communications. GS1 identification numbers and barcodes permit organizations of any size to order, track, trace, deliver and pay for goods across the supply chain, anywhere in the world. This represents over six billion scanning transactions a day. In Singapore, GS1 barcodes are used to capture over $5 billion worth of sales at retail point-of-sales (POS) terminals.
Loopedin competed with over 20 other companies and was selected for First Place by an esteemed panel of judges for meeting the overall Hackathon’s aim for collaboration and innovation to tackle real-world challenges and its objectives to increase adoption of GS1 standards, to progress the transition to new 2D barcodes and to support the organizations using GS1 barcodes in their sustainability transformation and revenue growth.
Singapore is amongst the top single use packaging users in the world with 76 kg per capita per year but only 5% of all plastic waste is recycled. Plastic use contributes to climate change, environmental pollution, and biodiversity loss.
“Loopedin’s “reusable food containers as-a-service: GS1 Singapore enabled” (a proposed collaboration between GS1, Singapore Food Agency and Loopedin to advance the elimination of single use packaging by caterers and supermarkets through integrating 2D QR codes into Loopedin RFID software and achieve a convenient solution for end users ) stood out for its creativity, practicality and exemplifies the innovative spirit and forward-thinking approach that this hackathon aims to inspire” said Christopher Ang, Chief Executive Officer, GS1 Singapore.
“Marcus and I are honored to have won the Hackathon and for Loopedin to be recognized as an impactful solution to pioneer packaging circularity by GS1 and for this exciting achievement to be celebrated during the SMF Manufacturing Summit.” Said Loopedin Co-Founder Stephanie Simonnet.
